Bubbles

Mike Smith (Bubbles) is a Canadian actor born and raised in Thorburn, Nova Scotia. Mike Smith started as a musician in 1992 his career took off he played guitar in the band Sandbox. The band immediately signed a record deal with EMI. After the band Sandbox broke up in 1998, Mike Smith went to work as being as sound mixer on TV and film. The director of the Trailer Park Boys originally hired Mike Smith to do the sound on the black and white movie of 1999 Trailer Park Boys. Mike Clattenburg heard Mike Smith doing the impression of "Bubbles" backstage for the crew, he knew right away that Mike Smith was the man for the job. Mike Smith never had acted before, but he accepted the offer. It wasn't until season 3 that Mike Smith appeared on the show Trailer Park Boys.

Since the Trailer Park Boys, Mike Smith has appeared on many tours with George Canyon, Tragically Hip, Snow, and Rush.  Mike Smith wrote, produced, and starred in the show Drunk and on Drugs Happy Funtime Hour'.

The reason I chose to do Mike Smith is because I found him to be quite funny, but at the same time he tries to make the best out of every situation when he stars as Bubbles on the Trailer Park Boys, like whenever Ricky and Julian get into an argument over money or drugs, Bubbles always tries to calm the situation down.

Here is one of the works and an interview of the band Sandbox in 1996.

Bonus Bubbles

Mike Smith actually has a bar in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In it there are shopping carts hanging over the bar.

Does Media Influence Us? I think so

This post is talking about how Youtube a multi-million dollar corporation is letting small business owners advertise their products or name in the videos. Youtube was to anounce this today. The media being produced is mass media on Youtube. I diagree with the article's position a Youtube user goes on Youtube to watch a video of their choice, they don't go on there to watch 5 minutes of advertisements before you watch what you want to watch.

Pornagraphy in advertisements? Really?

This is a link to a picture from the 60's it is a woman standing up holding a a headlight. This is pornagraphy, it was used a lot in the 60's in commercials.

This is a picture of a woman modeling a top. This is not right to make women display themselves that way.

I think that advertisers making women display themselves as pornography is wrong. The advertisers shouldn't be allowed to air a commercials like that because it degrades women. Advertisers using the same elements as pornography is not right, children most likely see those advertisements. The advertisements that have the same elements as pornography is aired on channels that are family rated.

Sext it up!

The popular culture is becoming a porn culture. What was considered soft porn a generation ago is now mainstream. - This is a concern for some parents these days. The ones that don't let their child dress like they are 18 or 19 years old. Most parents are letting their children dress this way because they are being influenced themselves by the media. Essentially they are being brainwashed, by thinking its alright to dress their children like this.

Boys want love and romance as much as girls do, but how does porn distance them from that desire - Porn distances boys from that desire to have love and romance in a relationship because they think porn should be in a relationship, but in reality it's not.

Playing "princess" as a young girl actually primes them for sexualization later. Girls go from being to wanting to be the prettiest to being the sexiest. - This is true in today's society. Most girls do play princess. As they grow up they start thinking differently they want to now be the sexiest instead of the prettiest. They are influenced by the society because everywhere they go they see older girls dressing like this and they think it is cool to look like that.

Student's are using "adult" devices (like cell phones) and appear not to be capable of understanding the difference between private and public. - Student's that use cell phones, the majority do not know the difference between private and public. Sending a near naked picture is private, but some people don't realize that. When someone sends a picture that picture can be shared publicly by the person who received it.

The sexualization of female entertainers vs. male entertainers - Female entertainers have to dress with less clothing then male entertainers. Females have to portray themselves more than males. For instance the music videos the women singers make they are dressing less and less with each video. Male entertainers usually just wear a suit.

Media Literacy

In the first video two important pieces of information are at the first when the lady describes what media literacy is, and how it affects us, and the second piece of important information is when the man towards the end of the video says he believes there are two trends in the media and he says they are corporatism, consolidation, centralization, the other trend is diversity, local ism, independence. Media Literacy when you think about it media means descriptive of any type of communication, literacy means to read or create.

In the second video two important pieces of information are when the lady addresses the different questions a lot of people have about the media they watch and hear. And another important piece of information is when she said what she thought about media literacy. The junk values have been high over the past 5 years, companies are always trying to sell us something on advertisements. Media is a reflection on how people live their lives, because if someone watched violent shows and advertisements all their life that person is going to want to live their life violent.
